Queen’s Park Rangers defender, Nathan Carlyle, spent the majority of last season on loan at Step 2 side, Concord Rangers. The 19-year-old expresses his appreciation to Concord management, in particular, Danny Scopes and Adam Drew.
Featuring in over 13 competitive games for the Beach Boys, Carlyle was thrilled with the opportunity to play for the Club.
“It was an excellent experience for me, I really enjoyed it!
“I can’t be more grateful for the chance the manager and coaching staff gave me to play at this level. Not a lot of young players get an opportunity with no experience in the men’s game like I had.”
The Club signed Carlyle on Christmas Eve, and settled into the squad straight away.
“The players made me feel very welcome from the first day. It gave me the chance to play my best football.”
It was only 10 days before QPR teammate, Ben Wells, joined the squad. The young duo stayed with the Club, playing a big role in the FA Trophy, until the world of football was dramatically stopped due to the global pandemic, Coronavirus.
“The trophy was amazing and making history for the Club was something I will hold onto for the rest of my career!” expressed Carlyle.
“I think the fact a lot of people wrote us off was even better. We just done our talking on the pitch.”
“I can’t describe the feeling to have this great opportunity to play at Wembley. I’ll keep repeating myself when I say I can’t thank the Manager, Adam and all the coaching staff for the trust they have put in me during my time here at Concord!”
“The Cup run was crazy and something that I still get buzz off to this day. That Semi-final win was just pure emotion for me, and I felt very proud when Adam and the Scopesy called me to come back and play in the game. I just felt like I had returned the favour by helping the team get to Wembley and I’m still just thankful for the opportunity.”
