CHARLES EAGER TO CLIMB UP THE TABLE WITH CONCORD

Heading into Saturday’s game against Hampton & Richmond Borough, Ashley Charles is determined to continue working hard for Concord Rangers to climb up the table.

The 21-year-old joined the Beach Boys in December on loan from Wealdstone. Since his arrival, he has run the midfield for the National League South outfit as James Blanchfield was side-lined with a series of injuries so far this season.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time so far at this club.

“All the boys were welcoming; from the very first training session the boys and the coaching staff.”

Charles was a vital piece to the Wealdstone squad last season. The club earned promotion to the National League with the midfielder featuring many times for the Stones.

“I think last season made me realise a big thing in football. It is simply just running over the other team. When you’re on the front foot and working harder than your opponents, that’s when you earn the ability for the team to use the ball effectively allowing us to control the game.”

Charles made his debut, completing 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw against Eastbourne Borough. He also started against Billericay Town as Concord started 2021 with a bang, winning 1-0 thanks to a quality goal by Lewis Simper.

“I’m very happy with the team performances. I think we have got a very good team and I believe we can keep winning and collecting points, climbing up the table.”

A win Saturday could put Concord four points from play-offs with a possible game in hand. The midfielder thinks the Beach Boys are more than capable.

“We need to do the same things that’s got us the points in previous games. We need to stick together and continue working hard for each other to win.”
